As PMs, we are constantly seeking innovative ways to streamline our workflows, communicate effectively, get inspired, and solve complex challenges. We could pretend ChatGPT doesn’t exist, but it does, and it can make your life a lot easier if you let it. I don’t think AI will replace PMs, I do however think PMs who use AI will replace the ones who don’t.
Luckily, it’s really easy to learn.
The most important thing you need to learn is clear prompting. There is a great paper written on it: A Prompt Pattern Catalog to Enhance Prompt Engineering with ChatGPT, it will take you an hour to read and will explain everything in detail.
Using unscientific language, to craft a good prompt, be clear and specific about your request, provide sufficient context and use descriptive language. Ask open-ended questions to encourage thoughtful responses and include any constraints or guidelines. Be concise, avoid unnecessary details, and iterate as needed, refining your prompt for better results. Strive for neutral language to avoid biases.
Even shorter:
- Act as Persona X
- Perform task Y
When ChatGPT doesn’t respond the way you want or doesn’t quite understand the query, you can edit your original ask or re-prompt it with different wording to get better results.
Another amazing thing is you don’t even need to write a prompt. ChatGPT can do it for you.
I asked ChatGPT to come up with different prompts for every possible task you can face as a PM.
